At length when the messengers arrived among the adherents of Lut, 61 he said: "Surely you are an unknown folk." 62 They said, "No, but we bring you news about what they disputed, 63 And we have brought unto thee the truth, and verily we say sooth. 64 "Then travel by night with thy household, when a portion of the night (yet remains), and do thou bring up the rear: let no one amongst you look back, but pass on whither ye are ordered." 65 And We decreed unto him this commandment because the last of those was to be cut off in the early morning. 66 And the people of the city came rejoicing. 67 He said: verily these are my guests, so disgrace me not. 68 And fear Allah and do not disgrace me." 69 They said: Have we not forbidden you from (other) people? 70 He said, "Here are my daughters, if you must act in this way." 71 By your life, [O Muhammad], indeed they were, in their intoxication, wandering blindly. 72 So As-Saihah (torment - awful cry, etc.) overtook them at the time of sunrise; 73 And We utterly confounded them, and We rained upon them stones of heated clay. 74 Indeed in this are signs for people who perceive. 75 The place (where this occurred) lies along a known route. 76 Verily, herein lies a message indeed for all who believe [in God]. 77 And indeed the Dwellers of the Woods were unjust. 78 So We took retribution from them, and indeed, both [cities] are on a clear highway. 79
