Noah (Nooh)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
We sent Noah to his people, saying, 'Warn thy people, ere there come on them a painful chastisement.' 1 [And Noah] said: "O my people! I am but a plain warner to you, [sent to tell you] 2 “That you must worship Allah and fear Him, and obey me.” 3 "So He may forgive you your sins and give you respite for a stated Term: for when the Term given by Allah is accomplished, it cannot be put forward: if ye only knew." 4 He said: my Lord! Verily I have called my people night and day. 5 but my call has only caused them to flee farther and farther away [from Thee]. 6 And every time I called them so that You might forgive them, they thrust their fingers into their ears and wrapped up their faces with their garments and obstinately clung to their attitude, and waxed very proud. 7 "I preached to them aloud, in public. 8 And lo! I have made public proclamation unto them, and I have appealed to them in private. 9 "Saying, 'Ask forgiveness from your Lord; for He is Oft-Forgiving; 10 He will send the heaven upon you copiously; 11 'And give you increase in wealth and children, and bestow on you gardens and bestow on you rivers." 12 What aileth you that ye expect not in Allah majesty! 13 When He created you by (divers) stages? 14 Do you not consider how Allah has created seven heavens in layers 15 And made the moon therein a [reflected] light and made the sun a burning lamp? 16 And God caused you to grow out of the earth, 17 and to it He will return you. Then, He will bring you forth. 18 And Allah has made for you the earth an expanse 19 that thereof you may thread ways, ravines." 20
