The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
I swear by the sun and its brilliance, 1 and by the moon as it follows it; 2 And by oath of the day when it reveals it 3 And by the night as it conceals it (the sun); 4 And the heaven and Him Who built it, 5 by the earth and that (Power) which spread it out 6 by the soul and Who shaped it 7 and inspired it with knowledge of evil and piety, 8 He who purifies it will indeed be successful, 9 And miserable is he who hath buried it. 10 Samood gave the lie (to the truth) in their inordinacy, 11 When the most wicked among them stood up in defiance. 12 The Messenger of God told them, "This is a she-camel, belonging to God. Do not deprive her of her share of water". 13 But they denied him, and they hamstrung her, so Allah doomed them for their sin and rased (their dwellings). 14 And He (Allah) feared not the consequences thereof. 15
