The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
(Muhammad), read in the name of your Lord who created (all things). 1 He created man from a clot of blood. 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Bountiful One 3 Who taught by the pen, 4 taught the human what he did not know. 5 Nay, but verily man is rebellious 6 for he believes himself to be self-sufficient. 7 Verily, to thy Lord is the return (of all). 8 Have you seen the one who prohibits 9 A bondman of Ours when he prayeth 10 Have you seen if he was upon guidance 11 or if he commands others to maintain piety!? 12 Have you seen if he denies and turns away - 13 Does he not realize that God sees him? 14 Let him beware! If he does not desist, We will drag him by the forelock -- 15 by the lying forelock steeped in sin. 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 We also shall call the infernal guards. 18 Nay, heed him not: But bow down in adoration, and bring thyself the closer (to Allah)! ۩ 19
