The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 Arise and warn! 2 Thy Lord magnify 3 And keep your clothes clean. 4 and flee from the statues! 5 And bestow not favour that thou mayest receive more. 6 But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! 7 For when the trumpet is sounded, 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 Not easy upon the disbelievers. 10 Leave Me and him whom I created alone, 11 and designated for him ample wealth, 12 and sons ever present with him, 13 And made things easy for them. 14 and who still greedily desires that I should bestow upon him more. 15 By no means! Verily he hath been unto Our signs a foe. 16 On him I shall impose a fearful doom. 17 Lo! He reflected, and determined -- 18 death seize him, how he determined! 19 May be then be accursed, how he plotted! 20 Then looked he, 21 Then frowned he and scowled. 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 and says, "All this is mere spellbinding eloquence handed down [from olden times]! 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 And what knoweth thou that which the Scorching Fire? 27 It spares not, neither leaves alone 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 and it has nineteen angelic keepers. 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
