The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ When the inevitable event takes place, 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 some shall be abased and others exalted. 3 When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake. 4 And the mountains will be powdered to dust. 5 becoming scattered dust, 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 So those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 8 Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 9 and the Outstrippers: the Outstrippers 10 (The foremost ones) will be the nearest ones to God 11 In the gardens of bliss. 12 (a throng of the ancients 13 and how few of the later folk) 14 (They will be) on Thrones encrusted (with gold and precious stones), 15 reclining on them facing each other; 16 they will be waited on by ageless youths 17 Cups and decanters, beakers full of sparkling wine, 18 by which their minds will not be clouded and which will not make them drunk; 19 Also, they will be served with the fruits of their choice 20 And meat of birds that they may wish. 21 And (there are) fair ones with wide, lovely eyes, 22 like unto pearls [still] hidden in their shells. 23 All this shall be theirs as a reward for their deeds. 24 Therein they hear no vain or sinful discourse. 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 And the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 27 (They will be) among thornless lote-trees, 28 and flower-clad acacias, 29 and spreading shade 30 Gushing water, 31 and an abundance of fruits, 32 unfailing and not forbidden. 33 and raised couches 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 having resurrected them as virgins, 36 loving and of equal age. 37 For the fellows on the right hand. 38
