To whosoever blinds himself from the Remembrance of the Merciful, We shall assign him a satan so he is his companion, 36 and these satans hinder them from the Right Path, while he still reckons himself to be rightly-guided. 37 And when he comes before Us, he shall say: 'Would that there had been between me and you, the distance of the two Easts' Evil is the companion. 38 It will profit you not this Day (O you who turn away from Allah's remembrance and His worship, etc.) as you did wrong, (and) that you will be sharers (you and your Qarin) in the punishment. 39 What! can you then make the deaf to hear or guide the blind and him who is in clear error? 40 We shall revenge them either after your death 41 Or if We shew thee that wherewith We threaten them, verily We are going to prevail over them. 42 So hold fast to what has been revealed to you. You are truly on the right path. 43 Verily it is a great source of eminence for you and your people, and soon you will be called to account concerning that. 44 Ask those of Our messengers whom We sent before you, "Did We ever appoint gods to be worshipped besides the Beneficent One?" 45
