The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
The Hour (of Judgment) is nigh, and the moon is cleft asunder. 1 But if they see a sign they turn away, and say: "This is the same old lie continuing," 2 for they are bent on giving it the lie, being always wont to follow their own desires. Yet everything reveals its truth in the end. 3 Messages deterring them from evil had come to them, 4 Consummate wisdom-- but warnings do not avail; 5 Therefore turn away from them; on the day when the announcer will call towards a severe unknown matter – 6 They will come out of the graves with downcast eyes like an expanding swarm of locusts. 7 These disbelievers will say, "This is a hard day". 8 ۞ The people of Noah denied [the truth] before them. They belied Our messenger saying, "He is mad!" He was rebuffed, 9 Then he invoked his Lord (saying): "I have been overcome, so help (me)!" 10 So We opened the gates of heaven, with water pouring forth. 11 And caused springs to gush out from the earth, so that the two waters met totalling a quantity that had been destined. 12 But We bore him on a (vessel made) of planks and oakum, 13 running before Our eyes-a recompense for him denied. 14 And verily We left it as a token; but is there any that remembereth? 15 How terrible was My torment and the result of (their disregard) of My warning. 16 And We have indeed made the Quran easy to understand and remember, then is there any that will remember (or receive admonition)? 17 The 'Ad had also disavowed. How was then My punishment and My commination! 18 Indeed, We sent upon them a screaming wind on a day of continuous misfortune, 19 Plucking out men as if they were roots of palm-trees torn up (from the ground). 20 How then were My chastisement and My warnings? 21 Hence, indeed, We made this Qur'an easy to bear in mind: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 22
