Al-Alaq
The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Read with the name of your Lord Who created, 1 He created man from a clot. 2 Read, and your Lord only is the Most Beneficent, 3 who taught by the pen, 4 taught man what he did not know! 5 No indeed; surely Man waxes insolent, 6 for he thinks himself self-sufficient. 7 Lo! unto thy Lord is the return. 8 What do you think? Have you seen he who forbids 9 a servant [of God] from praying? 10 Have you considered if he were on the right way, 11 or if he commands others to maintain piety!? 12 Do you see how he has denied the truth and turned away from it? 13 Does he not know that Allah sees? 14 Nay! if he desist not, We would certainly smite his forehead, 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 Let him call on his associates for help 17 We will call the guards of Hell (to deal with him)! 18 No! Do not obey him. But prostrate and draw near [to Allah]. ۩ 19
