The Mountain (Al-Toor)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
CONSIDER Mount Sinai! 1 By a Decree inscribed 2 in an exposed parchment 3 by the much-visited House, 4 And [by] the heaven raised high 5 And the swollen sea 6 Lo! the doom of thy Lord will surely come to pass; 7 There is none that can ward it off. 8 On the Day the heaven will sway with circular motion 9 And the mountains will move away with a (horrible) movement. 10 Woe, then, will be on that Day to the beliers 11 all those who [throughout their lives] but idly played with things vain 12 the day when they shall be pitched into the fire of Gehenna: 13 (And it is said unto them): This is the Fire which ye were wont to deny. 14 Is this magic, or do ye not see? 15 Roast in it, bear it with or without patience, it is the same, you are only being recompensed for that which you used to do' 16 Indeed, the righteous will be in gardens and pleasure, 17 Rejoicing at what their Lord has given them; and their Lord will preserve them from the torment of Hell. 18 (And it is said unto them): Eat and drink in health (as a reward) for what ye used to do, 19 Reclining on thrones, in rows; and We have wedded them to maidens with gorgeous eyes. 20 To those who have attained to faith We shall unite their offspring who have also followed them in faith, and We shall not let any of their good deeds go unrewarded; every human being is a pledge for whatever he has earned. 21 And We provide them with fruit and meat such as they desire. 22 and in that [paradise] they shall pass on to one another a cup which will not give rise to empty talk, and neither incite to sin. 23 ۞ And they will be waited upon by [immortal] youths, [as if they were children] of their own, [as pure] as if they were pearls hidden in their shells. 24 And they will advance unto each other asking questions. 25 Saying: "Aforetime, we were afraid with our families (from the punishment of Allah). 26 and God was gracious to us, and guarded us against the chastisement of the burning wind; 27 “Indeed we used to worship Him in our previous life; indeed He only is the Benign, the Most Merciful.” 28
