The Thamud belied the sent ones 141 Their brother Salih said to them: 'Will you not be cautious? 142 Behold, I am an apostle [sent by Him] to you, [and therefore] worthy of your trust: 143 so fear God and obey me. 144 “And I do not ask from you any fee for it; my reward is only upon the Lord Of The Creation.” 145 "Will you be left secure in that which you have here? 146 amidst [these] gardens and springs 147 farms, and palm-trees in thick groves, 148 Will you still skilfully hew houses out of the mountains? 149 Have fear of God and obey me. 150 "And follow not the bidding of those who are extravagant,- 151 “Those who spread turmoil in the earth, and do no reform.” 152 They said: Thou art but one of the bewitched; 153 You are nothing but a man like us. Bring us a token if you speak the truth." 154 He said: This is a she-camel; she shall have her portion of water, and you have your portion of water on an appointed time; 155 so do her no harm, or the punishment of an awful day will befall you." 156 But they hamstrung her; and on the morrow were repentant, 157 And the punishment seized them. Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. 158 Your Lord, He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 159
