The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 there is no denying its coming 2 Abasing (some), exalting (others); 3 When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake. 4 and the mountains are totally shattered and crumble to pieces 5 And become dust dispersing. 6 You shall then become three groups. 7 Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 They shall be the nearest to God. 11 in the beautiful Paradise. 12 A multitude of those of old 13 And a few of those (foremost) will be from the later time (generations). 14 On thrones woven [with ornament], 15 reclining upon them, set face to face, 16 Surrounded by immortal boys. 17 With cups, and jugs, and a glass from the flowing wine, 18 Unheady, uninebriating; 19 along with fruits of their choice; 20 And the flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And [with them will be their] companions pure, most beautiful of eye, 22 Like unto Pearls well-guarded. 23 a recompense for that they laboured. 24 They shall not hear therein vain or sinful discourse, 25 But only the saying of: Salam!, Salam! (greetings with peace)! 26 The Companions of the Right 27 They shall be in the midst of thornless lote trees, 28 and acacias flower-clad, 29 and continuous shade, 30 And water flowing constantly, 31 And plenty of fruits. 32 never-failing and never out of reach. 33 And raised couches; 34 We have created maidens perfectly 35 And made them virgins, 36 intensely loving and of matching age. 37 for the Companions of the Right 38
