The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Someone has (needlessly) demanded to experience the torment (of God), 1 those who deny the truth. [Know, then, that] nothing can ward it off, 2 [since it will come] from God, unto whom there are many ways of ascent: 3 by which the angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him in one Day which will last for fifty thousand years. 4 Wherefore be thou patient with a becoming patience. 5 They think that it (the Day of Judgment) is far away. 6 But We see it (quite) near. 7 On the Day the sky will be like murky oil, 8 And then the mountains shall become like unto wool dyed. 9 even intimate friends will not inquire about their friends, 10 (Though) they shall be made to see each other. The guilty one would fain redeem himself from the chastisement of that day by (sacrificing) his children, 11 And his spouse and his brother 12 And his kin that sheltered him. 13 And whoever is on earth entirely [so] then it could save him. 14 Nay, verily it is a furnace 15 It snatches away by the scalps, 16 It calleth him who turned and fled (from truth), 17 and amassed wealth and hoarded it. 18 ۞ Verily, man (disbeliever) was created very impatient; 19 bewailing when evil befalls him, 20 And when good toucheth him he is begrudging. 21 Not so are the prayerful. 22 Those who are constant in their prayer 23 And those in whose wealth there is a fixed portion. 24 For the beggar and the destitute; 25 And those who accept the truth of the judgment day 26 And those who are fearful of the punishment of their Lord - 27 for none may ever feel secure from the punishment of their Lord; 28 And those who protect their private organs (from adultery). 29 Save in regard to their spouses or those whom their right hands own; so verily they are not blameworthy 30 (but whoso seeks after more than that, they are the transgressors), 31 who honor their trust and promises, 32 And those who stand firm in their testimonies. 33 And those who [carefully] maintain their prayer: 34 They will be in gardens, honored. 35
