Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O THOU enwrapped one! 1 Keep vigil the night long, save a little - 2 A half of it or a little less 3 or add to it a little; and recite the Qur'an slowly and distinctly. 4 Verily, We shall send down to you a weighty Word (i.e. obligations, legal laws, etc.). 5 Truly the rising by night is most potent for governing (the soul), and most suitable for (framing) the Word (of Prayer and Praise). 6 whereas by day a long chain of doings is thy portion. 7 But keep in remembrance the name of thy Lord and devote thyself to Him whole-heartedly. 8 The Sustainer of the east and the west [is He]: there is no deity save Him: hence, ascribe to Him alone the power to determine thy fate, 9 And patiently endure upon what the disbelievers say, and leave them for good. 10 Leave Me to those who cry lies, those prosperous ones, and respite them a little, 11 Surely with Us are heavy fetters and a flaming fire, 12 and food that chokes, and grievous suffering 13 on the Day when the earth and the mountains will be convulsed and the mountains will [crumble and] become like a sand-dune on the move! 14 Indeed, We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness upon you just as We sent to Pharaoh a messenger. 15 However, the Pharaoh disobeyed the Messenger and We seized him with a severe retribution. 16 Then how, if ye disbelieve, will ye protect yourselves upon the day which will turn children grey, 17 The Day when the heavens will be rent asunder and God's promise shall be fulfilled. 18 Surely this is a reminder, then let him, who will take the way to his Lord. 19
