The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the star when it descends, 1 your companion is not in error nor has he gone astray. 2 Nor does he speak of (his own) desire. 3 It is no less than inspiration sent down to him: 4 taught by One who is Stern in power. 5 Endued with Wisdom: for he appeared (in stately form); 6 While he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 Then the Spectacle became closer, and came down in full view. 8 until he was as close to him as the distance of two bows, or even less. 9 When He revealed to His votary what He revealed. 10 The heart did not lie [about] what it saw. 11 will you, then, contend with him as to what he saw? 12 And verily he saw him yet another time 13 Near Sidrat-ul-Muntaha [lote-tree of the utmost boundary (beyond which none can pass)], 14 Near it is the Paradise of Abode. 15 When there covered the Lote Tree that which covered [it]. 16 The sight [of the Prophet] did not swerve, nor did it transgress [its limit]. 17 He certainly saw the greatest (signs) of the existence of his Lord. 18 Have you then considered the Lat and the Uzza, 19 And Manat, the third - the other one? 20 What, have you males, and He females? 21 This is certainly an unjust apportioning. 22 These are only names which you and your fathers have invented. No authority was sent down by God for them. They only follow conjecture and wish-fulfilment, even though guidance had come to them already from their Lord. 23 Shall man have whatsoever he wisheth for! 24 Rather, to Allah belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. 25
