In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you who wraps himself [in clothing], 1 Arise [to pray] the night, except for a little - 2 of one-half thereof - or make it a little less than that, 3 or add a little), and chant the Koran very distinctly; 4 Soon shall We send down to thee a weighty Message. 5 Lo! the vigil of the night is (a time) when impression is more keen and speech more certain. 6 Lo! thou hast by day a chain of business. 7 So remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with exclusive devotion. 8 Lord of the east and the west! No God is there but He! Wherefore take Him for thy trustee. 9 And bear thou patiently what they say, and forsake them graciously. 10 And let Me alone with the beliers, owners of ease: and respite thou them a little. 11 for, behold, heavy fetters [await them] with Us, and a blazing fire, 12 and food that chokes, and grievous suffering 13 On a day when the earth and the mountains will tremble, and the mountains turn into dunes of flowing sand. 14 Surely We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness over you, just as We had sent a Messenger to Pharaoh. 15 But Pharaoh disobeyed Our Messenger, so We seized him with a terrible seizing. 16 If you persist in disbelieving, how will you guard yourself against the (woe of the) Day that will turn children grey-haired, 17 Whereon the sky will be cleft asunder? His Promise needs must be accomplished. 18 Surely this is a reminder, then let him, who will take the way to his Lord. 19
