The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Of what ask they? 1 (It is) of the awful tidings, 2 whereupon they are at variance? 3 No indeed; soon will they come to know; 4 Verily, verily they shall soon (come to) know! 5 Have We not made the earth a resting place? 6 And the high hills bulwarks? 7 And We have created you in pairs. 8 And We have made your sleep as a rest. 9 And have made the night as a covering (through its darkness), 10 and made the day for earning a livelihood. 11 And (have We not) built over you the seven firmaments, 12 And We made a shining lamp, 13 And from the wind-driven clouds We send down waters pouring in abundance, 14 so that We might bring forth thereby grain, and herbs, 15 and gardens dense with follage. 16 Lo! the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 On that Day when the trumpet shall be sounded, you shall come in droves, 18 And the heavens shall be opened as if there were doors, 19 And the mountains shall be moved off so that they shall remain a mere semblance. 20 Indeed hell is lying in ambush. 21 The rebels' abode, 22 Living therein for ages. 23 Neither coolness shall they taste therein nor any [thirst-quenching] drink 24 Except scalding water and [foul] purulence - 25 A fitting recompense (for them). 26 Indeed they had no fear of the account. 27 And rejected Our signs as lies. 28 but We have placed on record every single thing [of what they did]. 29 So taste (the fruit of your deeds). We shall only increase your torment. 30
