The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
CONSIDER the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 By the day when it appeareth in glory, 2 And by Who created the male and female, 3 Lo! your effort is dispersed (toward divers ends). 4 So he who gives (in charity) and fears (Allah), 5 and affirmed the Truth of goodness: 6 We will facilitate for him the easy end. 7 And for him who hoarded wealth and remained carefree, 8 And who belieth the Good, 9 We shall pave his way to hardship, 10 And what will his wealth avail him when he falls? 11 Verily We take upon Ourselves to guide, 12 and to Us belongs the Hereafter as well as the present world -- 13 I have warned you then about a raging Fire: 14 None shall enter it but the most unhappy, 15 even he who cried lies, and turned away; 16 And Al-Muttaqun (the pious and righteous - see V. 2:2) will be far removed from it (Hell). 17 the Godfearing who spends his wealth to purify himself; 18 And have in their minds no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 Except only the desire to seek the Countenance of his Lord, the Most High; 20 He will surely be well-pleased (with him). 21
True are the words of God the Almighty.
