AND, INDEED, We have created man out of sounding clay, out of dark-slime transmuted 26 And the jinn, We created aforetime from the smokeless flame of fire. 27 Recall when your Lord said to the angels: "I will indeed bring into being a human being out of dry ringing clay wrought from black mud. 28 "When I have fashioned him (in due proportion) and breathed into him of My spirit, fall ye down in obeisance unto him." 29 Thereupon the angels prostrated themselves, all of them together, 30 But Satan did not; he refused to join those who prostrated themselves. 31 God asked Iblis, "What made you not join the others in prostration?" 32 He said: I am not such that I should make obeisance to a mortal whom Thou hast created of the essence of black mud fashioned in shape. 33 Said Allah, “Therefore exit from Paradise, for you are an outcast.” 34 Condemned till the day of Doom!" 35 [Iblis (Satan)] said: "O my Lord! Give me then respite till the Day they (the dead) will be resurrected." 36 (Allah) said: "Respite is granted thee 37 "Till the Day of the Time appointed." 38 He said: My Lord! Because Thou hast sent me astray, I verily shall adorn the path of error for them in the earth, and shall mislead them every one, 39 excepting those Thy servants among them that are devoted. 40 [Allah] said, "This is a path [of return] to Me [that is] straight. 41 “Indeed you do not have any power over My bondmen, except those wanderers who follow you.” (The devil is unsuccessful in tempting Allah’s chosen bondmen to commit sin.) 42 and for all such, behold, hell is the promised goal. 43 It has seven gates; for every gate there shall be a separate party of them. 44
