Al-Kahf 9 of 12
When Moses said to his servant (Joshua): "I will not give up till I reach the confluence of two oceans, or I will journey on and on." 60 But when at last they came to the land where the two seas met, they forgot their fish and it swiftly made its way into the sea. 61 But when they had gone farther, he said to his servant: Bring to us our morning meal, certainly we have met with fatigue from this our journey. 62 He said, “Just imagine – when we had taken shelter near the rock, so indeed I forgot the fish; and none but Satan caused me to forget to mention it; and the fish took its way into the sea – its amazing!” 63 Moses said: "But that is exactly what we were seeking." So they retraced their steps. 64 So they found one of Our servants, on whom We had bestowed Mercy from Ourselves and whom We had taught knowledge from Our own Presence. 65 Moses said to him: 'May I follow you so that you can teach me of that you have learned of righteousness' 66 He replied, "You will not be able to bear with me patiently. 67 'For how can you bear patiently with that which you have never encompassed in your knowledge' 68 He said: If Allah pleases, you will find me patient and I shall not disobey you in any matter. 69 The other said: "If then thou wouldst follow me, ask me no questions about anything until I myself speak to thee concerning it." 70

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
