And recount to them the story of Abraham: 69 [how it was] when he asked his father and his people, "What is it that you worship?" 70 They said, "We worship idols and remain to them devoted." 71 He asked, "Do they hear you when you call to them? 72 or do they profit you, or harm?' 73 They exclaimed: But we found our forefathers doing the same!" 74 He said: Have you then considered what you have been worshipping: 75 “You and your forefathers preceding you.” 76 Verily they are an enemy unto me, save the Lord of the worlds. 77 who created me. It is He who guides me; 78 And Who feedeth me and watereth me. 79 And when I sicken, then He healeth me, 80 He who will cause me to die and bring me back to life; 81 And who, I hope, will condone my faults on the Day of Judgement. 82 My Lord! bestow on me wisdom and join me with the righteous. 83 And appoint me a tongue of truthfulness among the latter. 84 And place me among the inheritors of the Garden of Delight, 85 "And forgive my father - for, verily, he is among those who have gone astray 86 And disgrace me not on the day when they are raised 87 the Day when nothing will avail, neither wealth nor offspring, 88 “Except he who presented himself before Allah, with a sound* heart.” (Intact or unblemished.) 89 And Paradise will be brought near [that Day] to the righteous. 90 and Hell shall be revealed to the misguided, 91 And it will be said to them: "Where are those (the false gods whom you used to set up as rivals with Allah) that you used to worship 92 other than Allah? Do they help you or even help themselves' 93 Then they will be thrown headlong into Hell, both they and the misguided ones, 94 And the hosts of the Shaitan, all. 95 And they will say while they dispute with one another, 96 'By God, we were certainly in manifest error 97 when we considered you equal to the Lord of the Universe. 98 No one but the sinners led us astray. 99 and we have no intercessors now, 100 Nor a close friend (to help us). 101 "'Now if we only had a chance of return we shall truly be of those who believe!'" 102 Surely, in that there is a sign, yet most of them do not believe. 103 And lo, thy Lord! He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
