The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the star when it plunges, 1 That your companion is not confused, nor has he gone astray, 2 nor does he speak out of his desire. 3 It [the Quran] is nothing but revelation sent down to him. 4 and taught to him 5 One vigorous; and he grew clear to view 6 When he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 Then he drew near and drew closer 8 Till he was (distant) two bows' length or even nearer, 9 and revealed to God's servant what he revealed. 10 The (Prophet's) heart lied not (in seeing) what he (Muhammad SAW) saw. 11 Will you then argue with him about what he saw? 12 And indeed, he saw him a second time 13 Nigh unto the lote-tree at the boundary. 14 Near it is the Garden of Abode. 15 When the tree was covered with a covering, 16 [And withal,] the eye did not waver, nor yet did it stray: 17 Indeed he saw the supreme signs of his Lord. 18 So did you observe the idols Lat and Uzza? 19 And Manat, the third, the last? 20 What! For you the son, and for Him the daughter? 21 That indeed is an unfair division -- 22 They are naught but names yourselves have named, and your fathers; God has sent down no authority touching them. They follow only surmise, and what the souls desire; and yet guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 What! Will man get whatever he dreams of? 24 To God belong the End and the Beginning. 25
