Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ OH, THE LAYING-BARE of the truth! 1 What is the Inevitable? 2 And what do you know what that indubitable event is? 3 The Thamud and the Ad denied the (possibility of a) sudden calamity, calling it false. 4 the Thamud were destroyed by a terrible storm of thunder and lightning; 5 and the 'Ad were destroyed by a furious wind 6 Which He imposed on them for seven long nights and eight long days so that thou mightest have seen men lying overthrown, as they were hollow trunks of palm-trees. 7 Do you see any vestige left of them now? 8 And Firaun, and those before him, and the dwellings that were inverted and thrown, had brought error. 9 And they disobeyed the Apostle of their Lord, so He punished them with a vehement punishment. 10 Lo! when the waters rose, We carried you upon the ship 11 so that We might make it a reminder for you and so that attentive ears might retain it. 12 Then when the Trumpet will be blown with one blowing (the first one), 13 And the earth and the mountains are lifted and leveled with one blow - 14 then, on that day, the Terror shall come to pass, 15 And the heaven shall cleave asunder, so that on that day it shall be frail, 16 and the angels will stand on the sides, with eight of them bearing aloft the Throne of your Lord on that Day. 17 The Day whereon ye shall be mustered nothing hidden by you shall be hidden. 18 Then as for him who is given his book in his right hand, he shall say, 'Here, take and read my book! 19 “I was certain that I will confront my account.” 20 His shall be a pleasing life 21 in a high Garden, 22 With fruits hanging low within reach, 23 [And all who are thus blest will be told:] "Eat and drink with good cheer in return for all [the good deeds] that you have sent ahead in days gone by!" 24 But he who is given his record in his left hand will say, "If only I had never been given my Record 25 and not known my reckoning! 26 "Ah! Would that (Death) had made an end of me! 27 "My wealth has not availed me, 28 and my authority has vanished.” 29 Seize him and fetter him, 30 And then expose him to hell-fire 31 and then thrust him into a chain [of other sinners like him - a chain] the length whereof is seventy cubits: 32 He did not believe in God the supreme, 33 Nor he urged on others the feeding of the poor. 34 On this day, they will have no friends 35 "Nor hath he any food except the corruption from the washing of wounds, 36 Which none but sinners eat. 37
