Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the dawn 1 By the Nights twice five; 2 By the even and odd (contrasted); 3 and by the night when it departs. 4 There surely is an oath for thinking man. 5 Seest thou not how thy Lord dealt with the 'Ad (people),- 6 Of the (city of) Iram, with lofty pillars, 7 The like of which were not created in the (other) cities; 8 And with (the tribe of) Thamud, who clove the rocks in the valley; 9 (Also consider the people of) the Pharaoh who victimized people by placing them on the stake, 10 Who all waxed exorbitant in the cities, 11 and caused much corruption in them: 12 Therefore your Lord struck them hard with the means of punishment. 13 Indeed, your Lord is in observation. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord trieth him by honouring him, and is gracious unto him, he saith: My Lord honoureth me. 15 And if He tests him and restricts his livelihood – thereupon he says, “My Lord has degraded me!” 16 By no means! But ye honour not the orphan, 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 and greedily devour the entire inheritance, 19 and love the riches, loving them ardently. 20 Most certainly – when the earth is smashed and blown to bits. 21 when your Lord comes down with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And when hell is brought that day – on that day will man reflect, but where is the time now to think? 23 He will say, "Oh, I wish I had sent ahead [some good] for my life." 24 Wherefore on that Day none shall torment with His torment. 25 And no one binds like He does! 26 [But unto the righteous God will say,] "O thou human being that hast attained to inner peace! 27 return to your Lord well pleased with him and He will be pleased with you. 28 So enter among My servants, 29 And enter thou My Garden. 30
