Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the dawn 1 And the Ten Nights, 2 And by the even and the odd, 3 and by the night when it departs. 4 is there not in this strong evidence for a man of sense? 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with Ad, 6 Of Eram with lofty pillars (erected as signposts in the desert), 7 Like whom no one else was born in the cities. 8 And (with) Thamud (people), who cut (hewed) out rocks in the valley (to make dwellings)? 9 And [with] Pharaoh, owner of the stakes? - 10 who transgressed in the countries of the world 11 And made therein much mischief. 12 (Therefore) your Lord let loose upon them a scourge of punishment; 13 for, verily, thy Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him, through honour and blessings, he says, "My Lord has honoured me," 15 But when He tries him (differently), then straitens to him his means of subsistence, he says: My Lord has disgraced me. 16 By no means! But ye honour not the orphan, 17 and do not urge one another to feed the poor, 18 and greedily devour the entire inheritance, 19 And love wealth with abounding love. 20 But no; when the earth is ground to powder, 21 and [the majesty of] thy Sustainer stands revealed, as well as [the true nature of] the angels; rank upon rank? 22 And Hell, that Day, is brought (face to face),- on that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance profit him? 23 He will say: Ah, would that I had sent before me (some provision) for my life! 24 Wherefore on that Day none shall torment with His torment. 25 Nor shall any bind with His bond. 26 (To the righteous soul will be said:) "O (thou) soul, in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased (with him), well-pleasing (Him), 28 Enter thou among My servants! 29 "And enter you My Paradise!" 30
