The Human (Al-Insan)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Was there a period of time when man was not even worthy of a mention? 1 We created man from a drop of mingled fluid so that We might try him; We gave him hearing and sight; 2 We showed him the way, whether he be grateful or ungrateful. 3 For the unbelievers, We have kept ready chains and fetters and a Blazing Fire. 4 Lo! the righteous shall drink of a cup whereof the mixture is of Kafur, 5 a spring from which God's servants will drink, making it gush forth in branches. 6 Those who fulfil their vows and fear the Day whose evil shall be diffused far and wide, 7 And feed with food the needy wretch, the orphan and the prisoner, for love of Him, 8 'We feed you only for the Face of God; we desire no recompense from you, no thankfulness; 9 Surely we fear from our Lord a stern, distressful day. 10 Wherefore Allah shall preserve them from the evil of that Day, and shall cause them to meet brightness and joy. 11 And shall recompense them for that which they patiently bare with a Garden and silken garment. 12 Reclining upon couches, they will find therein neither the heat of the sun nor bitter, biting cold, 13 the shading branches of trees will come down low over them, and their clusters of fruit, will hang down where they are the easiest to reach. 14 Rounds of silver cups and silver beakers, looking like glass, will be presented upon them. 15 and gleaming silver goblets which have been filled to the exact measure, 16 And they shall be given to drink from a cup whose mixture is ginger, 17 Which is a spring in Paradise called Salsabeel. 18 ۞ And round about them will (serve) boys of everlasting youth. If you see them, you would think them scattered pearls. 19 When you see them, you see bliss, and a great Kingdom. 20 Upon them shall be garments of fine green silk and thick silk interwoven with gold, and they shall be adorned with bracelets of silver, and their Lord shall make them drink a pure drink. 21 This will be their reward and their efforts will be appreciated. 22
