By the moon, 32 And [by] the night when it departs 33 And [by] the morning when it brightens, 34 Surely it (hell) is one of the gravest (misfortunes), 35 It is a warning for mankind 36 to whoever among you desires to go forward, or lag behind. 37 Each soul is held in pledge for what it earns, 38 Save those who will stand on the right hand. 39 In gardens they will ask one another 40 About the criminals, 41 What led you into the Scorching Fire? 42 They will reply: 'We were not among those who prayed 43 and we did not feed the poor, 44 And plunged into useless things with those who were obstinate, 45 And we have been belying the Day of Requital. 46 till the Certain came to us.' -- 47 The intercession of the intercessors will be of no benefit to them. 48 What is the matter with people that they are turning away from this Exhortation, 49 like startled wild donkeys 50 Fleeing from a hunter, or a lion, or a beast of prey. 51 Is it that everyone of them wants to receive a heavenly book addressed to him personally? 52 No, indeed they have no fear of the Everlasting Life. 53 Never so, as this is a reminder. 54 so whoever wills shall remember it. 55 And they will not heed unless Allah willeth (it). He is the fount of fear. He is the fount of Mercy. 56
