Some of the Pharaoh's nobles considered him to be no more than a skillful magician 109 and said, "He wants to expel you from your land." They asked (others), " what is your opinion in the matter? 110 Others said: 'Put them off a while, he and his brother, and send forth to your cities gatherers 111 to bring thee every cunning sorcerer.' 112 And the wizards came to Pharaoh, saying: Surely there will be a reward for us if we are victors. 113 He answered: Yes, and surely ye shall be of those brought near (to me). 114 They said: "O Musa (Moses)! Either you throw (first), or shall we have the (first) throw?" 115 He [Musa (Moses)] said: "Throw you (first)." So when they threw, they bewitched the eyes of the people, and struck terror into them, and they displayed a great magic. 116 And We inspired Musa (Moses) (saying): "Throw your stick," and behold! It swallowed up straight away all the falsehoods which they showed. 117 ۞ Thus the Truth prevailed and their false art was banished. 118 Thus there and then they were vanquished and overthrown, humiliated. 119 And down fell the sorcerers, prostrating themselves 120 They said: we believe in the Lord of the worlds. 121 "The Lord of Moses and Aaron." 122 The Pharaoh said to the magicians, "You declared your belief in him (Moses) without my permission. This is a plot to throw my people out of their city. But you will soon know. 123 Surely I will cut off your hands and feet on the opposite sides and thereafter I will crucify you all. 124 They answered: "Verily, unto our Sustainer do we turn 125 Will you punish us just because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us? Our Lord! Shower us with perseverance and cause us to die as those who have submitted [to You].' 126
