We sent a revelation to Moses saying, "Take away My servants by night and strike for them a dry path through the sea. Have no fear of being overtaken and do not be afraid." 77 And Firon followed them with his armies, so there came upon them of the sea that which came upon them. 78 And Pharaoh led his folk astray, he did not guide them. 79 Children of Israel! We delivered you from your enemies and We made a covenant with you on the right side of the Mount. We sent down manna and quails for you, 80 [Saying], "Eat from the good things with which We have provided you and do not transgress [or oppress others] therein, lest My anger should descend upon you. And he upon whom My anger descends has certainly fallen." 81 And verily, I am indeed Forgiving to him who repents, believes (in My Oneness, and associates none in worship with Me) and does righteous good deeds, and then remains constant in doing them, (till his death). 82 ۞ The Lord asked, "Moses, what made you attend your appointment with Me before your people?" 83 'They are upon my tracks,' Moses said. 'I have hastened, Lord, only that I may please Thee.' 84 The Lord said, "We tested your people after you left them and the Samiri made them go astray." 85 So Moses returned to his people full of anger and regret. "O my people," he said, "did not your Lord make you a better promise? Did the time of covenant seem too long to you? Or did you wish the wrath of your Lord to fall upon you that you broke the promise you had made to me?" 86 They said, “We did not renege on our promise to you on our own will, but we were made to carry the burdens of ornaments of the people, so we cast them – and similarly did Samri cast.” 87 Then he produced the image of a calf which mooed like a cow. And they said: 'This is your god and the god of Moses (whom) he has neglected." 88 Could they not see that it could not return them a word (for answer), and that it had no power either to harm them or to do them good? 89
