We saved the Children of Israel from their humiliating torment 30 [inflicted on them] by Pharaoh, seeing that he was truly outstanding among those who waste their own selves; 31 And We chose them, purposely, above (all) creatures. 32 And We gave them of signs that in which there was a clear trial. 33 Indeed these disbelievers proclaim; – 34 'There is nothing except the first death, we shall never be revived. 35 So then, bring forth our forefathers [as witnesses,] if what you claim is true!" 36 Are they better or the people of Tubba' and those before them? We destroyed them because they were indeed Mujrimun (disbelievers, polytheists, sinners, criminals, etc.). 37 We did not idly create the heavens and the earth and all that lies between them; 38 We created them not except with truth (i.e. to examine and test those who are obedient and those who are disobedient and then reward the obedient ones and punish the disobedient ones), but most of them know not. 39 Surely the day of separation is their appointed term, of all of them 40 The day on which, no friends will benefit each other at all, nor will they be helped. (Except those who are pious – see verse 43:67) 41 Save those on whom Allah will have mercy. Verily He! He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 42
