۞ (God will command the angels), "Gather together the unjust, their spouses, and what they had worshipped 22 “Instead of Allah and herd them to the path leading to hell.” 23 And detain them, for they will be questioned." 24 "'What is the matter with you that ye help not each other?'" 25 indeed, on that Day they will surrender themselves. 26 And they will turn to one another, and question one another. 27 They will say, "Indeed, you used to come at us from the right." 28 They shall say: Nay, you (yourselves) were not believers; 29 And we had over you no authority, but you were a transgressing people. 30 But now our Sustainer's word has come true against us [as well]: verily, we are bound to taste [the fruit of our sins]. 31 "We led you astray: for truly we were ourselves astray." 32 Then lo! this day they (both) are sharers in the doom. 33 Indeed, that is how We deal with the criminals. 34 For when it was said unto them, There is no Allah save Allah, they were scornful 35 And to say: What! shall we indeed give up our gods for the sake of a mad poet? 36 Nay: he has come with the truth and verified the apostles. 37 Now certainly you shall be tasting the painful chastisement, 38 although you shall not be requited for aught but what you were wont to do. 39 Except the chosen bondmen of Allah. 40 Those will have a provision determined - 41 Fruits; and they shall be honoured, 42 in the Gardens of Bliss. 43 facing one another [in love] upon thrones of happiness. 44 Round will be passed to them a Cup from a clear-flowing fountain, 45 White, delicious to the drinkers, 46 No headiness there shall be therein, nor shall they be therewith inebriated. 47 And with them are those of modest gaze, with lovely eyes, 48 As if they were eggs, safely hidden. 49 They will turn to each other and ask questions. 50 One of them will start the talk and say: "I had an intimate companion (on the earth), 51 Who said: art thou of those who confess to the doctrine of Resurrection: 52 "'When we die and become dust and bones, shall we indeed receive rewards and punishments?'" 53 He will say, "Would you [care to] look?" 54 Then, he will look and see him in the midst of Hell. 55 He said: "By Allah! You have nearly ruined me. 56 “And were it not for the munificence of my Lord, I too would have been seized and brought forth (captive)!” 57 What, do we then not die 58 Save our first death, and are we not to be tormented? 59 “This is, most certainly, the supreme success.” 60 For the like of this, then, let them labour, those who labour [in God's way]! 61 Is that better by way of hospitality or the Zaqqum tree, 62 Indeed, We have made it a torment for the wrongdoers. 63 Lo! it is a tree that springeth in the heart of hell. 64 and its fruits are like devils' heads. 65 And indeed, they will eat from it and fill with it their bellies. 66 And behold, above all this they will be confounded with burning despair! 67 And thereafter verily their return is unto the Flaming Fire. 68 They found their fathers in error, 69 So in their footsteps they are being hastened on. 70 And indeed before them, most of the former people went astray. 71 and We had sent among them Messengers to warn them. 72 Then see how was the end of those warned, 73 Except the servants of Allah, the purified ones. 74
