The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 abasing [some,] exalting [others]! 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 And the mountains are broken down, crumbling 5 and become a dust, scattered, 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 The People on the Right: and how fortunate will be the People on the Right! 8 And those on the Left Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left hands), Who will be those on the Left Hand? (As a disgrace for them, because they will enter Hell). 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 those are they brought nigh the Throne, 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced Islam). 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 [They will be seated] on gold-encrusted thrones of happiness, 15 facing one another. 16 There shall go round unto them youths ever-young. 17 With vessels, pitchers and a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring - 18 No after-ache will they receive therefrom, nor will they suffer intoxication: 19 with fruits of their own choice 20 And the meat of fowl, from whatever they desire. 21 And [with them will be their] companions pure, most beautiful of eye, 22 The likes unto pearls hidden. 23 as reward for their deeds. 24 No empty talk will they hear there, nor any call to sin, 25 Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. 26 And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 In shade long-extended, 30 and waters gushing, 31 and an abundance of fruits, 32 Whose season is not limited, and their supply will not be cut off, 33 And exalted thrones. 34 Surely We have made them to grow into a (new) growth, 35 Then We have made them virgins, 36 chaste, loving companions of the same age 37 For those on the right hand; 38
