The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
A beseecher besought the visitation of chastisement, 1 The infidels, of which there is no averter. 2 (A Penalty) from Allah, Lord of the Ways of Ascent. 3 The angels and the spirit ascend unto him in a Day the measure whereof is (as) fifty thousand years: 4 Therefore, [O believers] behave with seemly patience. 5 They deem it to be remote. 6 While we behold it nigh: 7 On the Day the sky will be like murky oil, 8 And the mountains shall be as tufts of wool 9 no loyal friend shall question loyal friend, 10 Though they shall be made to see one another. Fain would the guilty ransom himself from the torment of that Day by his children. 11 his companion wife, his brother, 12 And his kin that harboured him 13 And all that are in the earth, if then it might deliver him. 14 By no means! It will be the fierce flame 15 Taking away (burning completely) the head skin! 16 It shall claim him who turned and fled (from truth), 17 And amasses (wealth) then shuts it up. 18 ۞ Surely man was created fretful, 19 When evil touches him, impatient, 20 but when they are fortunate, they become niggardly 21 except those that pray, 22 Those who remain constant in their Salat (prayers); 23 And those in whose riches is a known right. 24 For the beggar who asks, and for the unlucky who has lost his property and wealth, (and his means of living has been straitened); 25 And those who believe in the Day of Recompense 26 And those who fear the punishment of their Lord. 27 For their Lord's displeasure is the opposite of Peace and Tranquillity;- 28 those who preserve their chastity 29 except from their wives and slave girls, in which case they are not to be blamed, 30 But whosoever seeks beyond that, then it is those who are trespassers. 31 and who preserve their trusts and their covenant, 32 And those who stand firm in their testimonies; 33 And those who are attentive at their worship. 34 Such will be the honoured ones in the Gardens (of Bliss). 35
