In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O YOU ENWRAPPED in the cloak (of Prophethood), 1 Stand (to pray) all night, except a little. 2 half the night, or a little less 3 Or add (a little) thereto - and chant the Qur'an in measure, 4 We are about to reveal to you a mighty word. 5 Surely the rising by night is the firmest way to tread and the best corrective of speech. 6 Verily there is for thee by day occupation prolonged. 7 And remember the Name of thy Lord, and devote thyself unto Him very devoutly. 8 (He is) Lord of the East and the West: there is no god but He: take Him therefore for (thy) Disposer of Affairs. 9 And be patient over what they say and avoid them with gracious avoidance. 10 And leave Me with [the matter of] the deniers, those of ease [in life], and allow them respite a little. 11 Indeed We have heavy fetters and a blazing fire. 12 and a food that chokes, and a grievous chastisement. 13 One Day the earth and the mountains will be in violent commotion. And the mountains will be as a heap of sand poured out and flowing down. 14 Indeed, We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness upon you just as We sent to Pharaoh a messenger. 15 But Pharaoh disobeyed the messenger, so We seized him with a ruinous seizure. 16 If you persist in disbelieving, how will you guard yourself against the (woe of the) Day that will turn children grey-haired, 17 The heavens itself will be rent asunder (on that day). His promise is bound to be fulfilled. 18 Surely this is a Reminder; so let him who will take unto his Lord a way. 19
