The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ About what are they asking one another? 1 About the great tidings! 2 on which they [so utterly] disagree. 3 Nay, they will come to know! 4 Yes, indeed, before long they will learn all about it. 5 Did We not make the earth a spreading, 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 And have made your sleep as a thing for rest. 9 And made the night as a covering, 10 And We have made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We made above you seven strong ones, 12 and placed in them a blazing lamp 13 From the rain clouds We send waters pouring down in abundance, 14 Thereby to produce grain and plant, 15 And gardens of entwined growth. 16 Indeed, the Day of Judgement is an appointed time - 17 The day the trumpet blast is sounded you will come in hordes; 18 and when the skies are opened and become [as wide-flung] gates; 19 And the mountains will be moved – they will therefore become like mirages. 20 Indeed, Hell has been lying in wait 21 A place of resort for the inordinate, 22 They will abide therein for ages, 23 They shall not taste therein cool nor drink 24 save boiling water and wash of the wounds; 25 A fitting recompense (for them). 26 They were those who did not expect a reckoning, 27 And they denied Our signs to the extreme. 28 But all things We have enumerated in writing. 29 'Taste! We shall increase you not save in chastisement.' 30
