Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
HAS THERE COME unto thee the tiding of the Overshadowing Event? 1 [Some] faces, that Day, will be humbled, 2 Toiling, weary, 3 roasting at a scorching Fire 4 Given to drink of a spring fiercely boiling. 5 No food will there be for them but a poisonous thorny plant, 6 Which shall neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 [And] some faces will on that Day shine with bliss, 8 With their effort [they are] satisfied 9 In an elevated garden, 10 hearing there no babble; 11 Therein shall be a spring running! 12 And within it are couches placed on high, 13 and goblets set at hand, 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 And rich carpets spread. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 And at the sky, how it is raised aloft? 18 And at the Mountains, how they are fixed firm?- 19 and how the earth is spread out? 20 So remind them (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)), you are only a one who reminds. 21 You are not over them a controller. 22 But he who turns his back, and disbelieves, 23 him will God cause to suffer the greatest suffering [in the life to come]: 24 Verily unto Us is their return. 25 Then it will be for Us to call them to account. 26
