The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
And by the sun and its brightness; 1 by the moon, which follows it, 2 and by the day when it displays him 3 And the night when it draws a veil over it, 4 by the heavens and that (Power) which established them, 5 And [by] the earth and He who spread it 6 And by oath of the soul and by oath of Him Who made it proper. 7 Then He showed him what is wrong for him and what is right for him; 8 He who purifies it will indeed be successful, 9 And miserable is he who hath buried it. 10 The Thamud tribe rejected the truth because of their arrogance, 11 when the most corrupt of them incited them (to commit evil). 12 And the apostle of God had to tell them: "This is God's she-camel, let her drink." 13 However, they rejected him and slew her. So their Lord completely destroyed them and their city for their sins. 14 He does not fear the result (of their destruction). 15
