Said the Council of the unbelievers of his people, who cried lies to the encounter of the world to come, and to whom We had given ease in the present' life, 'This is naught but a mortal like yourselves, who eats of what you eat and drinks of what you drink. 33 “If you were to obey a human like yourselves, then surely you are losers!” 34 "Does he promise you that when you have died and have become dust and bones, you shall come out alive (resurrected)? 35 ۞ Far-fetched, far-fetched indeed is what you are promised! 36 There is nought but our life of the world; we die and we live, and we are not going to be raised up. 37 He is only a man who has invented a lie about God, and we are not going to believe him!" 38 He said: O my Lord! help me against their calling me a liar. 39 (Allah) said: "In but a little while, they are sure to be sorry!" 40 So the punishment overtook them in justice, and We made them as rubbish; so away with the unjust people. 41 Then, after them, We brought forth other generations. 42 No nation can live beyond its allotted time, or lag behind. 43 Thereafter We sent Our apostles, successively. So oft as there came unto a community their apostle, they belied him, so We made them follow one another, and We made them bywords; so away with a people who believe not! 44 Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our signs and a manifest authority 45 To Pharaoh and his nobles who behaved with arrogance, for they were a conceited lot, 46 So they said: shall we believe in two human beings like unto us, while their nation are to us slaves? 47 Then they belied the twain; so they became of those who were destroyed. 48 And certainly We gave Musa the Book that they may follow a right direction. 49 And We made the son of Maryam and his mother a sign; and We sheltered the twain on a height: a quiet abode and running water. 50
