Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
59 verses, revealed in Mecca after Vanity (Al-Zukhruf) before Kneeling (Al-Jaatheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Ha-Meem. (Alphabets of the Arabic language Allah, and to whomever He reveals, know their precise meanings.) 1 By the Clear Book. 2 We have indeed sent it down in a blessed night indeed it is We Who warn. 3 On this night, every absolute command coming from Us becomes distinguishable. 4 By command, from Our Presence. For We (ever) send (revelations), 5 A mercy from thy Lord. Lo! He, even He is the Hearer, the Knower, 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that lies between them, if you really do believe. 7 There is no god but He: It is He Who gives life and gives death,- The Lord and Cherisher to you and your earliest ancestors. 8 Nay! They play in doubt. 9 So you await the day when the sky will bring forth a visible smoke. 10 which will smother the people. They will say, "This is a painful torment. 11 [They will say], "Our Lord, remove from us the torment; indeed, we are believers." 12 How should they have the Reminder, seeing a clear Messenger already came to them, 13 Yet they turned their backs on him and said: One taught (by others), a madman. 14 [Still,] behold, We shall postpone this suffering for a little while, although you are bound to revert [to your evil ways: but] 15 On the Day when We shall seize you with the greatest grasp. Verily, We will exact retribution. 16 ۞ We had tried the people of Pharaoh before them. A respected prophet had come to them (saying): 17 Saying: restore to me the bondmen of Allah, verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 18 And saying: Be not proud against Allah. Lo! I bring you a clear warrant. 19 And verily I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord lest ye stone me. 20 If you do not believe in me, leave me alone." 21 (But they were aggressive), so he [Musa (Moses)] called upon his Lord (saying): "These are indeed the people who are Mujrimun (disbelievers, polytheists, sinners, criminals, etc.)." 22 So depart thou with My bondmen by night; verily ye shall be pursued. 23 And leave the sea behind you as calm as ever. Surely they are an army that is doomed to be drowned.” 24 How many of the gardens and fountains have they left! 25 And fields and grand palaces! 26 And the comfort they enjoyed. 27 Thus (it was), and We gave them as a heritage to another people. 28 And the heavens and the earth wept not for them, nor were they given a respite. 29

قراءة القرآن مترجماً إلى الإنجليزية أو أية لغة أخرى أشبه بقراءة كتب التفسير من قراءة ترجمات حرفية.
Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
