He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 to him thou attendest 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 and who has fear of God, 9 you pay him no heed. 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 lofty and pure, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 and angelic scribes. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and herbage 28 And olives and date palms, 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 And fruit and grass - 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 laughing and joyous 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
