Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I swear by the daybreak, 1 By the Nights twice five; 2 And the Even and the Odd, 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 Is there in that an oath for the mindful? 5 Seest thou not how thy Lord dealt with the 'Ad (people),- 6 (The people of) Aram, possessors of lofty buildings, 7 the like of which was never created in the countries? 8 And Thamood, who hewed out the rocks of the valley? 9 and Pharaoh, he of the tent-pegs, 10 Who committed inordinacy in the cities, 11 And multiplied iniquity therein? 12 Therefore did thy Lord pour on them a scourge of diverse chastisements: 13 Your Lord is certainly in wait. 14 Now, as for man, when his Lord trieth him, giving him honour and gifts, then saith he, (puffed up), "My Lord hath honoured me." 15 However, when his Lord tests him by a measured amount of sustenance, he says, "God has disgraced me". 16 No. In fact you are not generous to the orphans, 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And devour the inheritance devouring greedily, 19 And you love wealth with much love! 20 No indeed! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 And your Lord comes with the angels in rows, 22 and Gehenna (Hell) is brought near on that Day the human will remember, and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say, "Would that I had done some good deeds for this life". 24 But on that day shall no one chastise with (anything like) His chastisement, 25 And no one binds like He does! 26 [To the righteous it will be said], "O reassured soul, 27 return to your Lord well pleased with him and He will be pleased with you. 28 Join My servants. 29 Enter thou My Garden! 30
