He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 you attended to him, 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 and fearfully, 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 lofty and pure, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 and olives, and palms, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
End of Surah: He Frowned ('Abasa). Sent down in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
