The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O THOU [in thy solitude] enfolded! 1 arise and give warning! 2 and magnify the glory of your Lord, 3 and purify your clothing, 4 And uncleanliness avoid 5 And bestow not favour that thou mayest receive more. 6 And for the sake of your Lord, patiently endure. 7 When the Horn is blown, 8 That Day will be a difficult day 9 and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 And gave him vast wealth. 12 And sons abiding in his presence 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 And yet he desires that I should add more! 15 By no means! For to Our Signs he has been refractory! 16 I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 (Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! 19 Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! - 20 May he be condemned again for his schemes! He looked around, 21 Then frowned he and scowled. 22 then he retreated and waxed proud, 23 and said, "This is nothing but sorcery from the ancients. 24 “This is nothing but the speech of a man.” 25 Soon I will cast him into hell. 26 And what have you understood, what hell is! 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 Over it are appointed nineteen. 30 And We have not made the keepers of the Fire except angels. And We have not made their number except as a trial for those who disbelieve - that those who were given the Scripture will be convinced and those who have believed will increase in faith and those who were given the Scripture and the believers will not doubt and that those in whose hearts is hypocrisy and the disbelievers will say, "What does Allah intend by this as an example?" Thus does Allah leave astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none knows the soldiers of your Lord except Him. And mention of the Fire is not but a reminder to humanity. 31
