Nay! By the moon 32 By the night when it departs. 33 By the morning when it brighteneth. 34 surely (Hell) is one of the greatest Signs, 35 a warning to humankind, 36 to everyone of you, whether he chooses to come forward or to hang back! 37 Every soul is held in pledge for what it earns, 38 save those who shall have attained to righteousness: 39 In gardens they will ask one another 40 about the guilty ones: 41 'What caused you to be thrust into the Scorching (Fire)' 42 They will answer: "We did not fulfil our devotional obligations, 43 And did not feed the needy, 44 and we were wont to indulge in sinning together with all [the others] who indulged in it; 45 and belied the Day of Recompense 46 until the inevitable event overtook us.” 47 Then there will not profit them intercesion of the interceders. 48 Then what is wrong with them that they turn away from admonition, 49 As if they were startled donkeys – 50 Fleeing away from a lion. 51 Is it that everyone of them wants to receive a heavenly book addressed to him personally? 52 Nay, but they do not [believe in and hence, do not] fear the life to come. 53 Nay! it is surely an admonition. 54 So whoever wills may heed advice from it. 55 And they will not receive admonition unless Allah wills; He (Allah) is the One, deserving that mankind should be afraid of, and should be dutiful to Him, and should not take any Ilah (God) along with Him, and He is the One Who forgives (sins). 56
