Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
I swear by the daybreak, 1 and the ten nights! 2 The multiple and the one, 3 And by the night when it departs. 4 Indeed in that there is an oath for a man of sense. 5 Seest thou not how thy Lord dealt with the 'Ad (people),- 6 Of the (city of) Iram, with lofty pillars, 7 the like of which was never created in the land, 8 and with [the tribe of] Thamud, who hollowed out rocks in the valley? 9 And with Pharaoh, lord of stakes? 10 Who committed inordinacy in the cities, 11 and brought about great corruption therein: 12 Therefore your Lord let down upon them a portion of the chastisement. 13 Indeed nothing is hidden from the sight of your Lord. 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him, then treats him with honor and makes him lead an easy life, he says: My Lord honors me. 15 but when He tests him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Lord has disgraced me." 16 By no means! But ye honour not the orphan, 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And ye devour inheritance - all with greed, 19 And love wealth with all your heart. 20 Nay, but when the earth is ground to atoms, grinding, grinding, 21 and [the majesty of] thy Sustainer stands revealed, as well as [the true nature of] the angels; rank upon rank? 22 And on that Day hell will be brought [within sight]; on that Day man will remember [all that he did and failed to do]: but what will that remembrance avail him? 23 He will say, "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life!" 24 None can punish as He will punish on that day, 25 And His bonds will be such as none other can bind. 26 O the contented soul! 27 Return unto thine Lord well pleased and well-pleasing. 28 Enter thou among My righteous bondmen! 29 Enter My Paradise." 30
