And recite unto them the story of Ibrahim. 69 when he said to his father and his people, 'What do you serve?' 70 They replied: 'We worship idols and continue cleaving to them' 71 Said he: "Do [you really think that] they hear you when you invoke them, 72 or do they cause you any benefit or harm?" 73 They said: Nay, but we found our fathers acting on this wise. 74 Abraham said, "Have you really thought about what you have been worshipping, 75 "Ye and your fathers before you?- 76 They are enemies to me except the Lord of all the Worlds 77 Who created me, and He doth guide me, 78 Who gives me food and drink, 79 and, whenever I am sick, heals me, 80 who makes me to die and then revives me, 81 And Who, I hope, will forgive me my mistakes on the day of judgment. 82 Lord, grant me authority. Join me to the righteous ones. 83 And appoint for me an honourable mention among the posterity 84 and make me of those who will inherit the Garden of Bliss, 85 Forgive my father. He has gone astray. 86 "And let me not be in disgrace on the Day when (men) will be raised up;- 87 The Day when neither wealth nor sons shall benefit 88 Unless it be he, who shall bring unto Allah a whole heart, 89 And Paradise will be brought near [that Day] to the righteous. 90 and Hell advanced for the perverse. 91 they will be asked, "Where are those whom you worshipped 92 apart from God? Do they help you or help themselves?' 93 So they and all the astray were flung into hell. 94 and the hosts of Iblis, all together. 95 And there and then, blaming one another, they [who had grievously sinned in life] will exclaim: 96 'By Allah, we were certainly in clear error, 97 When we made you equal with the Lord of the Worlds. 98 It was nothing but the evildoers who led us astray. 99 So none we have as intercessors. 100 Nor any sincere friend. 101 Would that we had a second chance [in life,] so that we could be among the believers!" 102 Verily there is a sign in this, but many of them do not believe. 103 And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. 104
