The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By those (angels) that pluck out the soul from depths, 1 By the meteors rushing, 2 And by those who float in space, 3 And by those that press forward as in a race (i.e. the angels or stars or the horses, etc.). 4 by those that direct an affair! 5 The day the convulsive (first blast) shatters convulsively 6 to be followed by further [convulsions], 7 On that day hearts beat painfully 8 Unable to lift their gaze. 9 They say: "Shall we go back to our original state 10 "Even after we are crumbled bones?" 11 They said: That then would be a return occasioning loss. 12 However, it will only take a single blast 13 and then, lo, they will be fully awakened [to the truth]! 14 (Muhammad), have you heard the story of Moses 15 Recall what time his Lord called unto him in the holy vale of Tuwa. 16 "Go unto Pharaoh - for, verily, he has transgressed all bounds of what is right 17 and say [unto him,] 'Art thou desirous of attaining to purity? 18 Then I will guide you to your Lord that you may come to fear Him.'" 19 And he showed him the greatest sign, 20 But he denied and disobeyed, 21 Then he turned his back, striving hard (against Allah). 22 then he mustered 23 Saying, "I am your Lord, Most High". 24 but God seized him and meted out to him the chastisement of both the next world and the present: 25 In this, behold, there is a lesson indeed for all who stand in awe [of God]. 26
