Those who went before them had also devised evil plans. God demolished their houses, destroying their very foundations. Their ceilings toppled on their heads and torment struck them from a direction which they had never expected. 26 Then on the resurrection day He will bring them to disgrace and say: Where are the associates you gave Me, for whose sake you became hostile? Those who are given the knowledge will say: Surely the disgrace and the evil are this day upon the unbelievers: 27 The ones whom the angels take in death [while] wronging themselves, and [who] then offer submission, [saying], "We were not doing any evil." But, yes! Indeed, Allah is Knowing of what you used to do. 28 So enter the gates of Gehenna, there to dwell forever.' Evil is the lodging of those that wax proud. 29 ۞ And when the God-fearing are asked: "What has your Lord revealed?" they answer: "Something excellent!" Good fortune in this world awaits those who do good; and certainly the abode of the Hereafter is even better for them. How excellent is the abode of the God-fearing: 30 They will be admitted into the gardens of Eden wherein streams flow and they will have therein whatever they want. This is how God will reward the pious ones. 31 They will be received by the angels of mercy with the greeting, "Peace be with you. Enter Paradise as a reward for your good deeds." 32 (O Muhammad), are they waiting for anything else than that the angels should appear before them, or that your Lord's judgement should come? Many before them acted with similar temerity. And then what happened with them was not Allah's wrong-doing; they rather wronged themselves. 33 Then, the evil results of their deeds overtook them, and that at which they used to mock surrounded them. 34
