Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the dawn 1 and the ten nights, 2 And by oath of the even and the odd. 3 And by the night when it departeth, 4 Why is there an oath in this, for the intelligent? 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with 'Aad - 6 Of Eram with lofty pillars (erected as signposts in the desert), 7 The like of whom were never created in the realm; 8 And with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the vale, 9 And with Pharaoh, firm of might, 10 Who all waxed exorbitant in the cities, 11 and exceeded in corruption therein. 12 Wherefore thy Lord poured on them the scourge of His torment. 13 Truly your Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him, through honour and blessings, he says, "My Lord has honoured me," 15 And when He proveth him, and so stinteth unto him his provision, he saith: 'my Lord hath despised me. 16 Nay! but you do not honor the orphan, 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 and you devour the inheritance [of others] with devouring greed, 19 and you love wealth with an ardent love 20 Surely when We pound the earth to powder grounded, pounded to dust, 21 And your Lord comes and (also) the angels in ranks, 22 And Hell will be brought near that Day. On that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance (then) avail him? 23 He will say: 'Would that I had forwarded (good works) for my life!' 24 For, none can make suffer as He will make suffer [the sinners] on that Day, 25 None bindeth as He then will bind. 26 [To the righteous it will be said], "O reassured soul, 27 return to your Lord well pleased with him and He will be pleased with you. 28 enter, then, together with My [other true] servants 29 "Yea, enter thou My Heaven! 30
