The elders of Pharaoh's people said: 'Surely this man is a skilful magician 109 who seeks to drive you out from your land. What would you have us do?' 110 They said: "Put him and his brother off (for a time), and send callers (men) to the cities to collect (and) - 111 to bring thee every cunning sorcerer.' 112 And the wizards came to Pharaoh, saying: Surely there will be a reward for us if we are victors. 113 He said, “Yes, and you will then become close to me.” 114 They said, “O Moosa! You may throw first – or shall we be the first to throw?” 115 He said, “You throw”; when they threw, they cast a magic spell upon the people’s eyes and terrified them, and they brought a great magic. 116 And We revealed to Musa, saying: Cast your rod; then lo! it devoured the lies they told. 117 ۞ Thus the truth was upheld, and the falsehood that they practised was exposed. 118 Thus they were vanquished there, and they went back abased. 119 The sorcerers fell to the ground in homage, 120 They said: we believe in the Lord of the worlds. 121 The Lord of Musa and Haroun. 122 Pharaoh said, "You dare believe in Him before I have given you permission? Behold, this is indeed a plot which you have devised in this city in order to drive its people out. But you shall soon know the consequences, 123 I will cut off on opposite sides a hand and a foot, and then crucify you all' 124 They replied: 'We shall surely return to our Lord. 125 for thou takest vengeance on us only because we have come to believe in our Sustainer's messages as soon as they came to us. O our Sustainer! Shower us with patience in adversity, and make us die as men who have surrendered themselves unto Thee!" 126
